I helped a friend, the talented, Jonathan Hsu (Hsubox productions) with a film shoot this weekend. Directed by the artist, Ms Oh Zhang, this was a film to pay tribute to the Chinese-American Actress of the early 1930s named Anna Mae Wong. The film is called "Picadilly Revisited" and will premier in London AND..hopefully it will also premier in the states soon. It was really fun! I love shooting movie sets- their lighting is magnificent for little ol' photographers who are so used to/and sick of strobe lights. WHY oh WHY can't we just ALWAYS have continuous light?

Thursday Nights at the LaundryMat

Spent last Thursday night at Julian's film shoot. We didn't start until 10:00PM... there was a lot of setting up. It was definitely an interesting experience. I've never actually seen or understood how films were shot. It's COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than a still photo shoot. There is so much more work/crew involved. Something I learned, since, they were using a manual film camera and they had to do something called, "lens rehearsal". I thought this was insane. Basically the lens-guy had to adjust the lens at almost every angle the actor walked in... it's crazy how much has to go into shooting a film. They had to rehearse, over and over again. It really blew my brains because I probably would never be able to have patience for all of that ..
Anyway, me, being me- the photographer- was set there in order to get a good shot for his "movie poster" when he goes to advertise his film. I haven't had the time to actually look through them all and do some real editing, but I did quickly see this image, and buffed it up a little bit.. so you can have a sneak peak. I really like her expression. Since you guys have no idea what the film is about, give it a shot and see if you can figure it out from this shot. Comments please! =)
